No.

Do I need an active IRB approval for bridge funding?

If your project requires an IRB approval, it must be active and remain active during the bridge funding project period.

Do I need an active IACUC approval for bridge funding?

If your project requires an IACUC approval, it must be active and remain active during the bridge funding project period. 

Is there an application page limit?

Yes for the application there is a 3 (three) page limit. This limit does not include required attachments. 

Do I need to submit a biosketch with the application?

Yes, using the standard NIH format. 

What format should I submit for my biosketch?

What is needed for the budget portion of the application?

The proposal should detail the estimate of costs. This detail would include the names of personnel and breakdown of their effort and an itemized listing of salary and fringe benefit expenses. For supplies and other items the details should include sufficient information to understand what will be purchased (including quantity) as goods or services provided. 

NOTE: Any budget awarded will be in increments of 50% for the 1st six month period and if approved 50% for the 2nd six month period unless details are provided requesting an alternate. 

When should I submit an application?

An application should be submitted no less than 30 days prior to the requested start date. 

Is there a required project period?

No. Each project is unique. The maximum period of activity is 12 months. 

Is there a minimum budget?

No. 

Is there a maximum budget?

Yes. The college will fund up to ½ of the $80,000 maximum budget. ½ of the budget must be funded by the faculty’s department. 

Can I submit a renewal application?

Yes. The application will be reviewed with an increased expectation of progress made for extramural support. 

Can a person have two bridge funding awards at the same time?

No.


BUDGET 

Is faculty salary expense allowed?

Generally no. Exceptions may be considered under special circumstances for clinical faculty.

Is student (either graduate or undergraduate) salary expense allowed?

No.

Is travel expense allowed?

Yes, possibly up to $1,000 but must be fully justified as part of the original application submission. 

Can the funds be used for a project not yet submitted to an agency for an R01 equivalent mechanism? No. 5. Is student salary expense allowed?

No.

Is student tuition expense allowed?

No.

Is student travel expense allowed?

No.

Are faculty or staff relocation expenses allowed?

No.

Can a grant be used as a source of the Department match?

No.


FACULTY

Yes as up to the available budget and only for personnel working on the bridge project.

REPORTS

Are there any required reports after receiving a bridge funding award notice?

Yes, there are required interim and final reports.

When is the interim report due?

The interim report is due 5.5 (five & 1/2) months after the start of the bridge project.

When is the final report due?

The final report is due 12 (twelve) months after the start of the bridge project. 


REGULATORY

Must I have an IRB approval?

Yes, if the bridge project requires an IRB approval, it must be active at the time of the bridge application and remain active during the bridge funding project period.
